People and culture are the same thing. This spotlight series showcases Sentra’s incredible employees helping build the future of data-centric security.

Tell us about yourself, and your background

In my military service, I was a communications systems technician in the Armored Corps. After I finished my military service, I participated and graduated from a 6 month Full-Stack development course called Cyber4s by Scale-Up Velocity, for discharged combat soldiers. We covered many areas of the Full-Stack realm, such as Frontend, Backend, Cloud Services and Databases. It was a very intensive course, and was built to help us get into our first role in the High-Tech industry, and eventually I was qualified as a Full-Stack developer.

Why did you choose to work at Sentra, and when did you join?

I joined Sentra almost two years ago, back in May 2022. I really liked the atmosphere here, the people are very warm and friendly. The product seemed interesting and the Tech Stack aligned well with what I learned in the course, while also possessing new things for me to learn.

What is your role and what are your responsibilities?

I am a Full Stack Developer, on the Application team. My responsibilities include building Sentra's main SaaS product, while prioritizing UX, optimizing performance, and designing scalable architectures. On the API side, we focus on developing business logic and ensuring the API meets our scalability requirements. Additionally, we manage Sentra's main Database, ensuring it meets our needs while maintaining scalability.

What advice do you have for people getting started in your field?

For newcomers in the industry, maintaining an open mind is crucial. Embrace new technologies and continuously expand your knowledge.

My time at Sentra not only deepened my understanding of topics I was already familiar with, but also introduced me to entirely new domains and technologies.

For job seekers, adopt a daring approach – don't be afraid to send your CV even for positions that may seem slightly beyond your current skill level or those that don't perfectly align with your Tech Stack. Know your value and what you bring to the table. Keep up with learning, especially about emerging technologies. Don't hesitate to leverage your network – ask friends and friends of friends to share your CV. This approach led me to my current position, so be receptive to all opportunities!

Always bear in mind that you only need one promising opportunity. And as comedian Milton Berle wisely said, "If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door!"

What’s the best thing about working at Sentra?

The people! Everyone is so nice to one another, there's no judgment or fear of asking questions or not knowing something. Everyone is here to support each other, learn new things, and to make our product as amazing as possible!

Our engineering culture is also great. It's one of mutual support and receptiveness to new ideas, fostering a safe environment for everyone to take initiative. I firmly believe it contributed significantly to the development of our product.

This environment allows me to contribute and take the lead in various engineering efforts, spanning across different teams and projects. Feeling valued is crucial, and Sentra ensures that individuals here feel appreciated.

Recently, I took the initiative to lead a series of sessions about Typescript for the entire R&D team to enhance our proficiency, and it was a success! I find such opportunities for innovation and collaboration truly exciting and unique to our workplace - and having an ice cream machine doesn't hurt either 😉

Can you tell me something surprising you discovered while working at Sentra?

When I got here, I was the youngest employee - and nearly two years later, I am still the youngest in the entire company!

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose and why?

Probably somewhere in Europe. I just love taking in the atmosphere of walking in the city streets, filled with rich culture. I'd start by exploring a few countries to see different cultures.

What's on your professional 'bucket list' that you'd like to accomplish in the next 5-10 years?

I want to keep on learning new technologies and improving my expertise in building technical solutions. I love exploring new professional areas and growth opportunities, and the options are endless, so we’ll see where my journey takes me. 😄
