Why did you choose to work at Sentra, and when did you join?
The people and product!
I joined 7 months ago when I had just finished my BA in computer science and was working for a large corporation. I didn’t feel like I was making a big enough impact there and I was looking to join a startup with a fast-paced environment. After my first phone call with Sentra, I realized that the company was different from what I knew. My first interview was filled with positive vibes and I felt excited about the product and company culture. I knew from the first moment that I wanted to be part of this place.
What is your role and what are your responsibilities?
As a Software Engineer on the Sentra Platform Team, I am responsible for a wide range of tasks including:
I’m also actively involved in a variety of feature developments within Sentra.
What advice do you have for people getting started in your field?
Make sure you join the computer science field for the right reasons.
It's also important to do the things you're afraid of as often as possible until they become less terrifying. It’s okay not to know everything, but if you decide to learn a new technology or tool make sure to learn it well and drill down into the details.
What’s the best thing about working at Sentra?
The people and professional challenges.
The people here are amazing and I truly love each and every one. But the first thing I tell my friends about Sentra is how much I enjoy my work and professional tasks. Feeling important and challenged while working with bright and kind people is the perfect combination!
Can you tell me something surprising you discovered while working at Sentra?
A few things:
First of all, hierarchy does not have any meaning in code. My voice has importance and I’m able to actually contribute code along with senior developers.
Second, I was surprised to find out that there are two male ׳Mays׳ at this company!
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose and why?
Probably Australia, near the ocean. I love the sea, nature and animals in general, and the fact that they speak English there makes it even better.
What's on your professional 'bucket list' that you'd like to accomplish in the next 5-10 years?
I want to expand my professional and technical knowledge. I know it will take time but I want to learn every technology and understand how to build smart and efficient systems.
I’m also very interested in building cost-effective systems, the environmental cost of wasteful code is rarely discussed, and I am passionate about spreading eco-friendly practices.
I’d also like to become a Tech Lead or Tech Architect in the future. 🙂
